Haruichi Kato graduated with an Economics degree from Sophia University in 1968, and joined Nissho Iwai Corporation (one of Japan's major general trading companies). He was assigned to the iron ore department and engaged in importing business of iron ore mainly from Australia, India, Brazil, South Africa and Peru for the supply to Japanese steel mills for about 30 years.
During this unique international trading experience, Kato was
assigned to three overseas posts for 13 years as follows, and
conducted extensive business trips covering 50 countries in 5
continents. Kato joined TESCO as a search consultant in 1997 after resigning from Nissho Iwai. Reflecting wide variety of international experience and the personal network he has developed in his extensive trading business career, Kato has actively developed new clients in new industries upon initiating the executive search. The assignments he covers mainly include energy & natural resources, manufacturing, international trading and consumer goods and services. Clients served include Japan Tobacco, Viking Office Products, Tag Heuer, David Leadbetter Golf Academy, D.B.M., Carrefour among others. Kato is also responsible for managing the business of Executive Outplacement that TESCO has initiated in full scale as a new business unit from 1997. By fully taking advantage of the firm's unique relations with client corporations for the executive search, he has developed marketing and operational framework for the firm's outplacement business in alliance with Coutts Career Japan.
Married with one daughter, he enjoys poetry, music and hiking. He is
also active in developing human network of College Alumni
Association.
